Award winning actress Danielle Brooks is joining the HBO Max series “The Peacemaker”. The series is a spinoff of the upcoming movie “The Suicide Squad”.
John Cena stars in the titular role, while Brooks will play Leota Adebayo. “The Peacemaker” will explore the origins of Cena’s character, a man who believes in peace at any cost.
HBO Max has ordered eight episodes for the first season of the show.
Brooks is probably best known for her role as Taystee on the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”. She won three SAG Awards for her performance as part of the show’s ensemble.
She made her Broadway debut in the revival of “The Color Purple,” for which she earned a Tony nomination.
Currently, Brooks is shooting “The Mahalia Jackson Project” in which she plays the title role.
