Actress Carly Hughes, a regular on the ABC sitcom “American Housewife” has exited the series after alleging the show’s on set environment as “toxic.”

Hughes has been with the show for four seasons and appeared in the fifth season premiere. She’s quoted as saying “I was no longer able to work in the toxin environment that was created on American Housewife.” I made the decision to leave to protect myself from that type of discrimination.” She continued, “As a Black woman in entertainment, I feel the responsibility to stand for what I deserve, what we all deserve – to be treated equally. I wish the show well, and I am exiting for a new chapter and to be able to pursue the opportunities ahead.”

Series producer, ABC Signature, says they investigated Hughes’ claims and made “positive changes.” Creator Sarah Dunn is no longer involved with the series, though she’s still credited as an executive producer.

Hughes was the on Black series regular on “American Housewife”. Her departure from the series is another in a long list of Black talent in Hollywood shining a spotlight on mistreatment and discrimination.
