Netflix announces subscription increases for its basic and premium services.
The streaming service announced that the standard plan will increase to $14/month. The premium tier pricing increases by $2/month to $18.
All new subscribers will pay the new pricing, while current subscribers will see the increases reflected in their upcoming billing cycles.
Will this increase, the Netflix standard plan is now only $1 cheaper than new streaming service HBO Max.
The Netflix increases were expected but they come at a precarious time in the US economy. The streamer might be banking on the fact that due to the Covid-19 pandemic so many people are still at home and willing to pay the increase for entertainment.
Given the amount of diverse original and diverse content Netflix offers, these prices are still reasonable, but at some point the streaming bubble will burst with consumers consolidating which services are most valuable to them based on desired content.
