On June 19th Hulu will premiere its newest series Love, Victor. A spin-off of the 2018 film Love, Simon, the series focuses on a new student at Creekwood High School and follows him as he struggles with his sexual orientation.
The show will be narrated by Love, Simon’s Nick Robinson who is also a producer on the series. Along with Michael Cimino starring as the series titular character, the series also stars Ana Ortiz (Devious Maids) and James Martinez (House of Cards) as Victor’s parents.
Originally slated to run on the Disney+ streaming service, the show was moved to Hulu due to its more mature content. From the look of the trailer the series could have easily aired on the Disney cable network Freeform but Hulu needs the original content so this move makes sense. It would be smart for Disney to give the show some exposure on Freefom since they can easily deliver the target demographic.
Love, Simon was a really cute movie and will hopefully pave the way for more mainstream studio queer romcoms. I’m looking forward to watching Love, Victor so be sure to check back on my thoughts about the series.
