Pride Month is just a few days away and NBCU’s cable networks SyFy and USA are teaming with GLAAD to highlight positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community for the entire month.
It will be a Multiplatform campaign with both networks airing Pride-themed marathons, short form videos, PSAs, all-new podcast episodes and fan testimonials.
Actor BD Wong (Nora From Queens, Mr. Robot) will be featured in custom content on USA during marathons.
There will also be some virtual events tied into the the event throughout the month.
Some of the planned programming includes Wynonna Earp “#WayHaughtWednesdays” marathons; Xena: Warrior Princess Pride Marathons; Law & Order: SVU – “Stand Up with Pride”; and Modern Family Marathons among other programming events. You can check the network’s websites for more schedule information.
These look to be really robust offerings from both networks. It’s refreshing. So many networks are afraid to acknowledge Pride Month when many of their employees, creators, talent and crew are a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
I hope to see more networks do right by our community, not only by showcasing marathons during Pride month but by creating, acquiring, hiring and airing LGBTQ+ content not just in June but consistently throughout the year.
