CBS has decided to pick up a reboot of the 1980s series “The Equalizer” to series starring Emmy winner Queen Latifah.
The original series starring Edward Woodward followed a retired Intelligence Agent turned private detective who helped innocent people in dangerous circumstances.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, no pilot was produced so CBS is betting on an established title and a big name star to sell the show to viewers. Remember, Denzel Washington has starred in two feature films based on the tv series.
With the entertainment industry in flux, there’s no word on when the 2020-21 televisions season will start and when “The Equalizer” will premiere.
CBS also announced that Chris Noth (“Law & Order”, “Sex and the City”) has also joined the cast.
“The Equalizer” marks Queen Latifah’s return to weekly tv since the cancellation of “Star” on FOX. Picking up the series is a good call by CBS. It has contemporary name recognition because of the movie franchise and it’s the perfect vehicle for Latifah.
